TIFFIN– Coach Steve Ottoson’s Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers picked up their first win of the 2011-2012 season with a 59-40 win at home against Mid-Prairie Tuesday night, Dec. 20. The win improves the Creek boys to 1-6 overall, but still 0-4 in the WaMaC.
Creek took a 12-0 lead in the first quarter with buckets by Caleb Sedlacek, Clay Miller, Lukas Jones and Kam Kahler. The Clippers took the period 12-4 and led 29-16 at the half. Clipper domination continued in the third with CCA taking a 41-29 lead into the final eight minutes.
Dillon Villhauer sank a pair of three-pointers to sandwich a three-bomb from Nash Stopko. Up 59-38 with just under two minutes to go, Miller retired to the bench along with Villhauer, Stopko and Kahler. Reserves Keyan McAreavy, Tony Pederson, Nile Rourke and Zach Smith got time on the floor. Sedlacek came out and Nick Strausser took to the hard wood to the cheers of the student section.
Miller led the Clippers with 23 points, Stopko put up 14 and Villhauer had 10. Kahler added six points, Sedlacek posted four and Jones had two.
The Clippers return to action Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Independence and are home on Thursday, Jan. 5, for a girls/boys double-header with West Branch.
