The Solon High School Theatre Department presents “Shakespeare’s Shorts” on April 20, 21 and 22. Performances will be at the Solon Middle School auditorium.
Students are rehearsing and learning lines, practicing sword fights, sewing costumes and building the set for Shakespeare’s Shorts. It’s a lot of fun and hard work at the same time. The show is about three high school students, Bill, Janie and Sophie, who are writing a paper for their English class, when suddenly characters from Shakespeare’s plays start appearing in Sophie’s living room. Hamlet is pacing in front of the TV, Juliet is asleep on the couch, fairies are flying up and down the stairs, and guys are sword fighting on top of the coffee table! Three plays are presented in the one-hour show: Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream are all told using Shakespeare’s actual words combined with modern language for a fast and funny interpretation of the Bard’s greatest plays.
