NORTH LIBERTY– North Liberty residents who need basic health care checks but face difficulty covering the costs may take advantage of several health care professionals who will conduct those checks for free on June 2.
The free health care checks will be conducted at a “Healthy Living Fair,” hosted by First United Methodist Church, 85 Jones Blvd., North Liberty. The fair is a ministry of the church, to provide screening that people otherwise might avoid because of health care costs. Physicians, nurses, technologists, pharmacists, chiropractors and other professionals are volunteering their time for the fair.
“It’s about people helping people make ends meet,” said Christine Langridge, a member of the church committee organizing the event.
Blood pressure checks, height and weight checks, diabetes tests, fitness information, immunization information, a take-away program for disposing of old medicines and other pharmaceutical and wellness services will be available.
Also, the Mercy Women’s Center Mobile Mammography Unit will provide access to breast exams, with the women’s center’s digital technology and radiologists with more than 20 years of experience. Women using this service will be able to get information forms at the church on June 2 that help them schedule an appointment for a free exam on Saturday, July 7. Pre-registration is needed. Call 319-626-2762.
Pre-registration is not required for the other services but is preferred so volunteers can be prepared.
Volunteering their expertise for the fair, to date, are Adair Chiropractic, Anytime Fitness, Blink Vision, Clark Orthodontics, Core Fitness, Liberty Pharmacy, Mercy Care North Liberty and the North Liberty Recreation Center.
