IOWA CITY–The ICCSD Foundation invites you to help support district schools by doing one simple thing– eating out any time on Thursday, Sept. 13. On that date, participating restaurants will donate 10 percent of sales to the foundation to support educational programs that benefit students in the Iowa City Community School District.
The following area restaurants will be participating:
Coralville: Cookies by Design, El Cactus, El Dorado, Gus’ Food & Spirits, Mondo’s Brew House, Which Wich.
Iowa City: Blackstone, Bluebird Diner, Bread Garden Market, El Bandito’s, El Dorado (Sycamore Mall), Givanni’s, Heirloom Salad Co., Joseph’s Steakhouse, Linn Street Café, Midtown Family Restaurant, Midtown #2, Mondo’s Saloon, Motley Cow Cafe, Oasis Falafel, Okoboji Grill, Pagliai’s Pizza, Stella, The Wedge Downtown, Timmy Flynn’s Red Pepper Deli, Which Wich, Wildwood Smokehouse & Saloon.
North Liberty: Azul Tequila, Bluebird Café, Red’s Alehouse, Tubrosa Pizza Factory.
This is the foundation’s second year for “Food for Thought: Dine Out for Education” event. The first year over $18,000 was raised for the foundation’s excellence fund. “Food for Thought: Dine Out for Education” is a true partnership between the foundation, area restaurants and community members to help support Iowa City area public schools. Zephyr/Imprinted Sportswear provided promotional sponsorship for the program, which ensures that 100 percent of the proceeds benefit the foundation’s excellence fund.
The Iowa City Community School District Foundation generates and assists others in generating financial resources to enhance the education of all students within the district. More than $4 million has been raised to support curricular enhancements and special projects since the foundation’s inception in 1981. In 2012, the Foundation awarded more than $77,500 in excellence fund grants to support programs such as School of the Wild, iPads in Hands, The Symphony Goes to School, Visiting Author, and others.
