IOWA CITY– The Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association (IHSBCA) recently announced their 2013 all-district teams for Class 4A. Seven players from Iowa City West were named. First Team honorees: Tyus Adkins (pitcher), Colin Baker (catcher), Reid Bonner (second base), Ezra Reiners (outfielder) and Devin Raffensperger (utility). Second Team honorees: Sam Scott (pitcher) and Tanner Wilson (outfielder).
Adkins, a junior, had a perfect 8-0 record for the Trojans on the mound with a 1.62 ERA and 51 strikeouts. Offensively Adkins hit a .326 average with two homeruns, two triples and a dozen doubles. Baker, a senior, finished the season with a .330 batting average with two homers, 19 RBIs and seven doubles. Bonner, a senior, batted .410 with 45 RBIs, five homeruns, four triples and a baker’s dozen doubles. Reiners, also a senior, hit with a .397 average, batted-in 28 runs, belted-out three homers, three triples and 13 doubles. Raffensperger, a junior, hit .400 with eight homers, one triple and 14 doubles. Raffensperger also batted-in 40 runs.
Reiners and Bonner were also named to the IHSBCA’s all-star series, being played Aug. 8 through 11 at Principal Park in Des Moines. The pair will play on the Large Schools East team with City High’s Sam Mrstik and Cedar Rapids Prairie’s Mitch Adams.
Scott, a senior, had a 4-3 record on the mound with a 2.47 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 51 innings of work. Offensively Scott hit .250 with two doubles in ten hits with five RBIs. Wilson, also a senior, had a .400 batting average with 18 RBIs, four triples and four doubles in 38 hits.
The Trojans finished the season with a 33-8 record.
